HOW ONE MAN'S CREATIVITY IS FEEDING OUR FUTURE?

HOW ONE MAN'S CREATIVITY IS FEEDING OUR FUTURE?

I have enjoyed reading from successful business man Phil Romano. The first thing I was able to gather from him was on that fact that as entrepreneur you need not to always think about what you are to gain which could be in terms of profit wise but to consider the needs of the people by providing what they want. He said “You never think about making a profit, you think about service, giving the people something they want, and you make twice as much profit." I have also learn have passion for my work. We could only do so by think about our customer’s needs and going extra miles to provide it for them. One could clearly state that Phil Romano exhibited the attitude of having passion for what he does for living (His work) which has eventually translated to he been successful. He was a generous person whose life and influence brought blessing to the lives many people by establishing a company called “Hunger Busters” ending up feeding 3,000 street people a week.

Through the elevated pitch assignment for the week, I was able to come some proposal of my business. Some of these were to Identify my most important customer or customer group, Identify the need or critical issue facing them, Quantify the need listed above in dollars, time, productivity, Indicating the unique name of my product or service, Identify a generally understood category of products or services to which my product or service belongs etc. This activity has helped broadened my understanding of setting up my business.

Funding.

This week I was able to raise $ 25.00 from my monthly salary in preparation towards establishing my solar business. Before then I have already had a discussion on that (Dealing in solar equipment) with my dear wife and she was in full support of that. It has been said that a little drops of water makes a mighty ocean, so therefore will be continues to build up our savings in order to see our dream becoming a reality.  I have the confidence that this is one of the best ways to raise money to set up this business because of its involvement in personal saving. As part of becoming who we wish to become there is the need to get acquainted with great and influential people so as to learn from their experience. Some of these personalities are Ken Zolot and Dr. Deshpande whom I had the opportunity to learn from this week. Below were some thoughts I picked from their speech.
Ken zolot
Ken zolot stretched the boundaries of innovation with his restless creativity in tech industry. “Who cares “Ken Zolot said is tactical and market strategy question which gets an entrepreneur think about the needs of his customers, thinking who are these people, what problem of theirs are you solving, what do they needs and so on. From all he said, one thing I picked out as a great skill to every entrepreneur is to meet with the people asking them about their needs and passionately providing solution for them.
Dr. Deshpande

From humble beginnings in India, this entrepreneur revolutionized optical network technology. From Dr. Deshpande, Setbacks is a way to expand our comfort zones and as an entrepreneur we need to be optimistic hoping that all thinks are going to work out no matter what happens. I also learn that I have to stay connected to the world by so doing will enhance me with more information in order to get things done. Essentially, entrepreneurship is thinking about a product that you believe people need and then making it happen. You could be trying to make an economic intervention or a social intervention. It requires the same thing – the conviction, the passion, the execution.

MAINTAINING ONE'S VALUES IS IMPORTANT, EVEN IN THE DARKEST OF TIMES”

"MAINTAINING ONE'S VALUES IS IMPORTANT, EVEN IN THE DARKEST OF TIMES”

I am really impress about the quote “MAINTAINING ONE'S VALUES IS IMPORTANT, EVEN IN THE DARKEST OF TIMES”. This week I was really inspired about a hero Paul Robshaw whom I read about and will like to share some few thoughts I learn from him. Paul Robshaw got an early start in real estate, working alongside his father at age 13. This is where I believe he caught the vision and the passion to involve himself in real estate business. I like his attitude of being involve in every aspect of his father’s real estate business from cleaning and selling through investing and development. One way I could describe Paul Robshaw is that he learns from observation and experiences. He motivates the idea of head work which is a true principle of becoming successful in the world of business. What I so much cherish about Paul Robshaw is his core values. He said even though he went into bankruptcy, he still had his honesty, integrity, his believe in God and also having his friends. I think on matter what happens to us in life we must still have our core values with us, integrity, love, honesty and the Love of God.

Innovation and Creativity

This week’s lesson on Innovation and creativity has help me understands how to
  • a.       Recognize me own cognitive preferences as well as those of your team
  • b.      Assess how creativity is supported in me work environment
  • c.       Design teams to increase their creative potential and channel conflict towards productive purposes
  • d.      Alter attitudes, group norms, and physical surroundings in ways that improve the likelihood of innovative results

My main attention was on the Steps for enhancing my own creative potential as illustrated from Harvard Manager Mentor guide.

Strive for alignment.
I have learn to make sure the goals of the organization you work for are consonant with your most cherished values of mine.

Pursue some self-initiated activity.
Choose projects for which your intrinsic motivation is high. If you have always loved graphic design, try to determine why the packaging for one of your company's products leaves customers cold.

Be open to serendipity.
Develop a bias toward action and toward trying new ideas. For instance, if an accident or failure occurs while you're prototyping a new LCD screen, don't dismiss it too quickly. Study it for the learning opportunity that may lie within. Each day, write down what surprised you and how you surprised others.

Create opportunities for informal communication.
Take advantage of unanticipated opportunities to exchange ideas with colleagues. Creative thought often happens during spontaneous interactions between individuals. Such interactions, however, are only useful if real communication occurs. You must find ways to encourage and facilitate communication that is appropriate for the creative environment.

Experience: as an employee to an organization and from this few years of working experience I have come to cherished some of the steps for enhancing creative potential with regards to those I have applied personally.  (Strive for Alignment and creating the opportunity for informal communication). I can now Anticipate needs, articulate clearly for understanding and set the expectations and be willing to change by responding to the new agreed direction.

Time and Business

Time

I have come to learn a great lesson from a writer who shared his experience as he associate with some top anglers to fish. He lighted on the importance of time in our daily life so far as the world of business market is concern. He said and I quote “I've enjoyed recreational fishing since I was a kid. Over the years I've had the chance to fish and associate with some top anglers, and I've noticed something about them - they don't waste time in an unproductive location. If the fish aren't biting, they quickly move to a new spot. “I have come to value the importance of time management in the world of business or in other words time is money. As a people, individual have twenty-four hours in a day to labour. How successful we become doesn't depend on the long hours we may spent from the twenty-four hours but rather how productive and effective we use our time. In creating a business we may also have to take a second look at the needs of the people who are our customers. It has been said that “The market does not care how long you worked on something or how well you did it. Effort is not rewarded. The market cares only if what you've done is fit for their needs.”
